Dress of the Week: Joseph Altuzarra

Forget Dress of the Week...
I'm nominating this baby for Dress of the Year.

Perforated white leather amazingly complemented by
tropical print charmeuse center panels.
I love this dress more than I like most people—is that wrong?

The Dressology Dress of the Week is from Joseph Altuzarra.

Horizontal Heaven

There's something about stripes that make
my heart skip a beat.

I have to make a conscious effort to not wear them every day, buy them at every turn, and drape myself completely in ensembles made in horizontal heaven.

For the fellow-stripe-obsessed, here are some of my current faves.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Gauze Arrowhead Scarf, $198 at ShopBop

Easton Pearson Cotton & Lace Dress at Net-a-Porter, $855

Designer Spotlight: Michael Kors

Michael Kors

Born and raised in Long Island by his single mother Jean (a former Revlon model), Michael Kors was driven to the bright lights of fame from an early age.

At just 4-years old, Karl Anderson Junior not only designed his mother’s wedding dress, but he officially changed his name to Michael David Kors.
After two semesters at the Fashion Institute of Technology, Kors decided to embrace a less formal education and began working at NYC boutique Lothar's where celebrities like Diana Ross and Cher
shopped for casual clothing.

It was here that he cemented his fashion future
as a designer, eventually leaving Lothar’s to start his own line.

In 1981 the Michael Kors label was established specializing in
luxurious womens sportswear. His intriguing use of chic, minimalist silhouettes
in luxury fabrics ensured the line’s successful debut
at high-end retailers Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman.

After overcoming financial challenges in the early 1990s,
in 1997 Kors became Creative Director of French fashion house Celine.
While growing Celine he simultaneously built his own label, leaving Celine in 2003 to focus solely on his brand.
Over the years Kors expanded his collection to include menswear,
accessories and fragrance. Awarded the prestigious Designer of the Year Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2003,
the decision that very likely made him a household name was accepting the role as judge on hit US TV series Project Runway in 2004.

Continuing from strength to strength, the Michael Kors Fall 2012 Collection features his signature clean silhouettes in a pared-down color palette
in striking fabrications.

The 4-year old boy, the man he became and this latest collection share an innovative, creative style that places them directly in the bright lights of success.
