Met Gala 2012

Rachel Zoe in Rachel Zoe

I don't normally post on celebrity events. There are so many people out there doing it much, much better than myself.

But I was insanely inspired by the colour and beauty of these gowns—I love the union of fashion and art and wanted to share
with those of you who might've missed the coverage of the Met Gala.

This post isn't about running out and buying designer gowns (for those who can afford it), but to inspire and encourage readers to examine the images, study the photos to see how they can inspire and be interpreted in your daily wardrobe.
Florals, Brocade, Metallic, Vintage Style, the trends here (and on runway) easily translate to everyday clothing and likely to items that are already in your wardrobe!

1. Do you have a favourite gown?
2. What DREAM Designer would you wear if you were going to the MET BALL and $$$ were no object?
3. Do any of these looks inspire you in your daily wardrobe?

My answers:
1. I love Rachel Zoe's fringe vintage-inspired (1st photo)
2. Lanvin, Marchesa or Alexander McQueen.
3. The second to last photo has inspired me to look for a vintage-inspired floral wrap with a light background.

Be Bold. Stay Solid. In Bold, Solid Color Dresses!

Wearing a bold solid color
can be as striking as wearing
an allover print.

A few rules for wearing brights:
1. Select a color that suits your skin tone.

Rule Number Two:
2. Select shoes and accessories that balance the colour
(and style) of the dress.

Perfectly poised with a simple metallic clutch. Or clutch-less, with a bold cuff.

Or let the dress —and the body— speak for itself.

Love the necklace and somehow the red shoes even work?!

Rule Number Three:
3. Spend more money on bold colors.
Look for quality!

A hot pink or bright green dress from a discount store
sadly might look
like just that.

But a similar dress in a fine fabric like silk, cashmere or wool makes all the difference.

In the case of how to wear bold colour...
quality may the most important rule of all.

Tip of the Day: Fake the Body You Want!

Wishing you had a little more
va-va in your va-va-voom
Not everyone is blessed with a great rack or a J-Lo-esque bootie.

This is when a little ruffle, gather or detailing can go a long way to help you create the shape you want.

The great thing about this tip
is it also works in reverse.

A well-placed embellishment can disguise figure flaws, drawing the eye away or strategically masking "problem" areas.

Shabby Apple gets it right with Carnival, $93US

And contrary to some of the information out there, you don't always need to don black if curvy.

An all-over pattern is great at confusing the eye, not giving it any one place to land which can benefit a variety of body types.

What to accentuate or where to distract.
Something to consider when buying your next dress.
