The Weekend.

This is what I woke up to this morning.
I'm sooooo over the winter weather.
Fog. Rain. Cold. Wet.

Photo taken from my deck. Stupid, creepy, eerie, drippy Fog.

So I made one of these to cheer myself up.
Yeah, mine didn't look this good so I grabbed this photo off of calamitykim

And I put on my Camper boxer boots.
This photo makes my feet look HUGE!!!

Then I grabbed the dog.
Meet Josie. She was in no mood for a photo, so this is vintage (last summer). She'd like you to know she now sports an animal print collar with Swarovski crystals. Much cooler.

Next I grabbed the man.
And we braved the Stephen King weather for a walk.

He was in no mood for a photo either. So this was taken at work a few months ago.

The three of us decided nothing fixes the BWB (Bad Weather Blues) like than a houseful of food & laughter.
So we invited some of our peeps over and started setting up.
Think I like red much? I'm one lame photographer. Glare, shadows....oh well, you get the gist.
After the grey claustrophobic foggy morning, I thought wearing sunny yellow would brighten the mood of the day.
And like a miracle—after I got dressed—the sun appeared!

I decided I need to buy another yellow dress this week.
Just in case...
Maggie London Keyhole Chiffon Dress at Nordstrom, $135US

Nicole Miller Cutout Shift Dress at Neiman Marcus, $355US

Happy Talk Sunny Yellow Dress from Shabby Apple, $88US

What do you think about yellow?
Does yellow have a place in your wardrobe? Or in your weekend?

Fashion Icons: I Never Liked Darrin.

There are many fashion icons the world agrees on.
They come up in the annals of fashion time and time again.

I have an unlikely name I would like to add to the list.
She was my fashion icon when I was but a child.
To me, she is Old School Carrie or The OGFI (Original Gangster Fashion Icon)

I loved Samantha Stephens on Bewitched
I thought she was the hippest mom alive.
She always looked amazing even as Endora, Dr. Bombay and Serena
wreaked havoc around her.
And I'll now confess, I never much liked her husband Darrin.
I thought he was an ass.

For me....Samantha was IT. The cat's proverbial meow.
See if you agree.

And some color...

Phenomenal Woman: Where Substance Meets Style

Yes, this is a fashion and style blog, but if you're cruising for lookbooks or pretty pictures,
well, today I'm doing something a bit different.

In my opinion you cannot have style without substance.
And I believe my fellow bloggers have both.
So today I'm sharing a poem that is important to me.
My hope is that it will mean something equally "phenomenal" to you.

Please take a few minutes to enjoy this poem by Maya Angelou.
My wish is that it brightens your day. Lifts your spirits. Brings a smile to your lips. Instills you with newfound confidence. Shifts your thinking. Improves your attitude. Encourages a different view of life.
Mostly I hope it brings a little magic into your day.
Please enjoy it and embrace it.
We all need a little poetry in our lives.

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
They they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
The palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a  woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
—Maya Angelou

Dress of the Week: Alice + Olivia

Fancy a game of badminton under the shade of the magnolia trees?
Or perhaps a round of croquet on the rolling green lawn?

Plantation to penthouse, this spring green silk number exudes Southern charm
yet is equally appropriate in a sophisticated urban environment.
Alice+Olivia's Debbie Print Dress is Dressology HQ's Dress of the Week.

Shopaholics Anonymous? Sign Me Up!

Ok, this time I mean it...
No more shopping!
Not until I pay off some credit cards.

I wanted to share my farewell purchases for this season.
I used the sales as an opportunity to stock up on some winter basics.
And satisfy my newfound affection for cashmere.
Tell me what you think!

I've been eyeing these two cashmere beauties for months.
A bit pricey but I believe cashmere is forever...
Lucky me, on sale and in my size! Fate!

Sambag "Lucy" Long Wrap Cashmere Cardi, was $550, sale $200

Sambag "Lauren" V-neck Cashmere Sweater, sale price $92 from $260

A fellow fashion blogger featured this jacket on her site.
I wish I could remember which blog. : (
I was captivated and went straight to TopShop.
I've been looking for this color and style for while, but nothing demanded I buy it.

Until this beauty snagged me—especially with that asymmetrical hemline!
Sadly, not on sale. But for a classic item I love, I think I did ok?!
Saw this on a blog and had to have. Sadly, not on sale. Top Shop $85US

Paying for my jacket at TopShop I popped over to the sales...as you do!
I found this gorgeous little suede number.
I love the unusual but neutral color and the snap-front closure.
How would you wear this?
Suede skirt caught my attention at TopShop, sale price $30US

While shopping for a dog bed on ebay of all things, I spied this hip retro number.
Although the last thing I need is another trench, I could not pass it up for the price.
And the attitude!

How much do I love ebay? Vintage Leather Trench for $139!

Lastly are these ballet flats—an impulse buy when shopping with a friend.
I'm not sure if it's the bow or the color...but I now find them a bit snoooZZZZZeville.
 Teeny-tiny case of Buyer's Remorse!
But they're comfortable and timeless...and not returnable.
So hopefully I'll end up wearing them for years.

Walnut of Melbourne from $139 to $50
